After coming in contact with KVK scientist she started growing vegetables and fruits in her backyard by a improved method based on the advice rendered to her by KVK scientist which comprised trainings, method demonstrations and regular visits. Sharmila Bai was motivated to develop the Nutritional Kitchen garden in her backyard in 0.25 Acre area to ensure the availability of fruits like- Papaya, Lemon, Guava and Mango and vegetables like- cauliflower, Cabbage, Onion, Coriander, Bottle gourd, Brinjal, Tomato, Spinach, Chilli, Fenugreek etc., round the year for her family members. Nutritional Kitchen garden fulfilled food security as well as Nutritional requirements of Sharmila Bai and her family. She used total organic manure in her backyard like- Vermi-compost, NADEP, Vermi-wash, Gau-mutra and Gau-ark etc. prepared by her in her backyard with the result vegetable production has been increased substantially. Sharmila Bai got 120 Kg vegetables in her backyard per month out of which 60 Kg was consumed by her family and rest was distributed among her relatives and neighbourers. This has ensured her the saving of Rs.1400/- per month. Her standard of living has also been improved. Now she is very happy and welcomes the KVK scientist in a happy gesture.
Impact : Other farm women of the village have also started growing vegetables in their backyard by using organic manure.
